New makeup is one of those things that just makes me happy, even though I’m totally a creature of habit when it comes to my everyday routine. I think it all comes back to my mom, who’s an unashamed makeup addict– whenever I’m home with her, I usually walk away with at least 3 new items, and I love that she totally buys into the “expensive makeup is worth it” philosophy (because let’s face it: for the most part, it’s true). Here are a few things I’ve thrown into my makeup rotation recently…
A take-away from my mom. Jouer is a brand I hardly ever see in stores, but whose products are just good. I’ve tried their illuminating tinted moisturizer (another gift via my mom’s birchbox), their lipstick, and now this tinted gloss, and I love them all. The gloss is tinted without being too much for the day, and it doesn’t feel super sticky like some others.
Yet another gift from Robin! Clinique has been a constant in my mom’s makeup routine for as long as I can remember– when we were little, we knew we were going to the mall if it was bonus gift time at the Clinique counter, and now I see why she loves it so much. This chubby stick is in “curviest caramel,” and while it’s a little too bold for the daytime, if it wears off just a touch, it’s got just the right amount of pigment.
Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara is one of those products with a cult following, and I’ve got to admit that I think I’m sold. I don’t wear it as my only mascara, but when I need a little more volume, it does something serious to my eyelashes. I layer it on top of Maybelline’s Falsies mascara, and it’s a perfect combo.
Inspired by this gel hack I found on Pinterest, I decided to give it a whirl to see if anything could actually come close to the real thing. I’ve only had it on for a day now, but so far, I can tell my manicure feels a lot more durable than your regular color+top coat.
Ahh, tinted moisturizer. You’re either my favorite thing in my makeup bag, or you’re the absolute worst. I’m on a mission to try every tinted moisturizer out there, and so far I’ve adored the NARS tinted moisturizer and felt just “meh” about the Tarte amazonian clay BB cream. This Stila tinted moisturizer so far has been perfect for me– it’s got a little bit of coverage without making me look washed out (I’m looking at you, Tarte!) and it wasn’t as expensive as some of the other brands at Sephora. That makes it a keeper in my book!
